Referrers vs. Sponsored Agents:  What is the Difference?

This is a common question when exploring our industry, but from IACFB’s definitions, it is very simple:

REFERRER:  Referrers are those individuals who periodically send a prospect or lead to one of our factors, one of our commercial finance consultants, or IACFB itself through our wholesale finance division.  Referrers are quite often bookkeepers, tax preparers, or similar and operative successful community enterprises.  In some cases, referrers are simply those who are slowly getting started with the industry.Happy Woman Training as a Factoring Broker

SPONSORED AGENTS:  As the name implies, Sponsored Agents have a training sponsorThis is usually due to having provided a factor or one of our commercial finance consultants with leads or an actual client. Factors or consultants then sponsor these individuals to membership to the IACFB Academy for additional training and support such as…

  • IACFB Factoring 101 and 202 Sponsored Agent Training
  • a dedicated webpage on the commercial finance consultant’s (CFC’s) website…OR…
  • An actual stand-alone agent website is provided by the factor or CFC.

In any case, the primary difference between Referrer vs. Sponsored Agent is the agent has proven to be “active and has already revenue generating clients for finance.

How to Use the Magazine’s Boot Camp Feature

Boot Camp includes dozens of informative articles on how to get started in our industry as a referrer.  It includes basic articles regarding factoring, small business finance, and how to become a booming industry referrer.  As an integrated part of Commercial Finance Consultant Magazine, it is also an in-depth method of entering the industry as a commercial finance consultant.

Investing in a career as an industry professional (Commercial Finance Consultant) requires some dedication, training, and profound commitment to achieve success. However, for those looking to dip their toes into the finance industry without making a full-time career switch, becoming a part-time referrer or Sponsored agent offers a highly flexible and rewarding opportunity for pennies a day. Starting as a referrer or sponsored agent allows individuals to leverage their existing networks and connections to generate attractive income while enjoying the benefits of a part-time home business. Let’s delve into the advantages of this role:

  1. Flexibility: One of the primary benefits of being a referral agent is its flexibility. Unlike a traditional 9-to-5 job, referral agents have the freedom to work on their schedule, whether in the evenings, on weekends, or around other commitments.
  2. Low Startup Costs: Unlike starting a full-fledged consultancy, becoming a referrer or referral agent requires minimal startup costs and, in many cases, ZERO EXPENSE. There’s no need to invest in office space, equipment, or inventory, making it an accessible option for those with limited financial resources.
  3. No Formal Education Required: While becoming a Certified Commercial Finance Consultant necessitates specific training and certifications, serving as a referrer or agent typically does not require formal education. As long as you have good communication skills and a network to tap into, you can start referring clients and earning referral fees or commissions.
  4. Passive Income Potential: Referral agents can earn passive income by simply connecting business owners in need of financing with the appropriate financial services or professional consultants. Once made, referrers can earn ongoing commissions without being required to manage client accounts actively.
  5. Networking Opportunities: Serving as a referral agent allows you to expand your professional network and build relationships with other professionals in the finance industry. These connections can lead to future business opportunities and collaborations.
  6. Work-Life Balance: As a part-time referral agent, you can maintain a healthy work-life balance by choosing how much time and effort you want to dedicate to your referral business. This flexibility is especially appealing for individuals with other personal or professional commitments.
  7. Income Potential: While the income may vary depending on the number and quality of referrals, serving as a referral agent can provide a supplemental source of income. As you build your network and reputation, you may increase your earning potential over time.
